Public service broadcasting and digital platforms
One of the UK Film Council's policy priorities is to:
- Work with broadcasters and other platform operators and to improve public access to British and specialised films.
Why this is important
The UK Film Council believes that public service broadcasters and digital platforms should provide opportunities for films and related moving image material, including educational materials, to be made available to large and diverse audiences. In turn this helps grow the UK's film economy and to deliver significant public value to audiences.
Next steps
We seek to progress this policy priority by:
- Influencing policy for public service broadcasting through advocacy to Ofcom, Government and the European Commission to advance UK film
- Seeking to ensure that key public service broadcasters have policies in place which advance UK film
- Ensuring that public policies advance film across the value chain (development, production and distribution including online), that creativity is nurtured and that the audience has access to a broad range of film
- Making the case to Government and to Ofcom, the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK's communications industries, which help to ensure that an equitable and competitive marketplace exists for UK film on digital platforms.
